About Sticks n Stones
Sticks 'n' Stones - the mountain bike challenge
Sticks 'n' Stones is your new mountain bike challenge. Comprising four stages over two days the event will test the skills, stamina and resolve of riders who are looking for something more than a two hour jaunt on local trails.
What to expect
With courses notified on the day of riding, entrants will be in for an introduction to some great (private) trails around Marlborough.
The event team anticipate most riders being on the bike for two and a half hours per stage (five hours per day) for the two days of the event (16/17 October).
Our courses are almost exclusively on private land so your only chance to ride these trails comes as a participant in this event. You’ll receive a hard copy course map at check-in just in case you stray from the designated route (which will be marked).
A major part of any mountain bike event is the camaraderie. With shared lunch and evening meals both days (and the opportunity to be part of a race village community) we’ll be providing plenty of face time with your fellow riders.
To E or not to E, that is the question. Yes, we’ll be allowing E-bikes to be a part of the fun.
Sticks 'n' Stones is an inclusive event and E-bikes have put a whole new bunch of people on two wheels, that’s good for all of us. We’ll have a separate start wave for E-bikes so that they don’t influence results for the self-propelled. E-bikers won’t be eligible for any performance based prizes but will still be recognised as participants in what is a significant personal challenge even if you are getting a little electrical assistance.
We will have basic mechanical assistance available at the start/finish of the courses but there will not be any on-course support available. Support vehicles will not be permitted on the courses.
Our base will be the Giesen Sports Centre in Renwick. There will be opportunity for you to stay on-site in self contained campers.
The centre has large shower facilities (for that post-ride freshen up) and will be the site for our evening meals and social activity.
Should you wish to leave your vehicle north of Cook Strait there will be transport available to riders (subject to minimum numbers) from ferry to venue and daily to stage starts and return.
Booking and payment for this service needs to be made separately from event entry.
Your entry fee gets you the following:
- Two days riding with like minded people in some fantastic settings.
- The chance to test yourself in a fun/competitive situation.
- Lunch and evening meal both days.
- An embroidered souvenir patch as an event memento.
- Entry into all spot prize draws.
